Pat Checkel

Director of Robotics Programs
Pat Checkel, Director of Robotics, coordinates the robotics events sponsored by the NEOHSTEM alliance, furthering the alliance’s mission of directing extracurricular activities that engage and challenge students.

Pat has had two careers. As an educator, Pat taught mathematics at the secondary level for 9 years. Among the places at which Pat worked are Hathaway Brown School and Lake Ridge Academy. She has been teaching at the post-secondary level since 1992 at Cuyahoga Community College where she serves as an adjunct professor of mathematics.

Pat has also worked as a software engineer at Rockwell Automation for 24 years. She has worked in system architecture, product development, test and test automation. Since 2005 Pat has been very involved with FIRST, an international organization that promotes the study of engineering and technology by sponsoring robotics competitions for students in grades K-12. She has been a team mentor, an event volunteer, and the tournament director for the Cleveland FIRST Tech Challenge Qualifying Tournament.

Pat received her B.A. degree in mathematics from Oberlin College and her M.A. in mathematics from Cleveland State University.
